It is immediately significant - the language is about updating the program itself, such as Windows add-ons. Ale about the update of windows programs - with all the training it takes to write, it’s undeservedly not enough. Whenever you are talking about updating programs, ask yourself about updating the latest system. And that’s right – daily additions are “prescribed” immediately in a silent place, and it can be difficult to update a remote program with all the adjustments and similar ones. However, with the advent of Windows 7, it has become possible to contact the primary correspondent.

Updating the system in the past can provide an invaluable service in the event that you suddenly saw some program, and then changed your mind. The advantage of this is complete automation. You simply select the update point where you need to create a system recovery, and Windows will create the rest for you. The downside is that at the same time, using the program you need, you will also be responsible for updating the entire system to the new date. The user's files will not be stored, but other settings may get damaged and “bounce back.”

If such a crude approach does not satisfy you, you can perform a delicate surgical operation to update exactly what you need.

When you install any program, it copies its files into one or several folders. If you remove them from your computer, the uninstaller will remove these files. However, please note that the files being configured are not always deleted. Most often, the uninstaller deletes files with settings and special data from the user after uninstalling programs. In this case, all you have to do is reinstall the program and all adjustments will start automatically.

Once the uninstaller has thoroughly cleaned the system, you can try to go through these folders, whether in a program for updating files (I described them in the article Update data after formatting) and save the data for later recovery. Remember that simply updating the files will not work to update the Windows program - all the same, you will need a new installation, but on top of the newly installed program you can write the saved files - but in 70-80% of cases, updating the programs.

Program Files This folder's program settings are not saved. This is intended for saving files that need to be saved. In case of any problem, you can restore the folder with the remote program and copy it to the temporary folder.

My Documents XP: Documents and Settings\User\My Documents Vista/7: Users\User\Documents The My Documents folder, in theory, is not necessary to save the daily settings of programs - this is the task - to save the documents of the accountant. However, some programs try to “put” their customized files there. In any case, we take a look at the fact that there are no files there for the programs you need and we save them.

User\Application Data

XP: Documents and Settings\User\Application Data Vista/7: Users\User\AppData\Roaming Files from this folder are included in the warehouse of roaming profiles (per-user). Some programs save data here so that the data will be moved simultaneously with the client’s profile. Competently written programs ensure that you save information about the adjustment itself here, which gives this dad special respect, updating everything that can be copied in this time of chaos.

User\Local Settings\Application Data XP: Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings Vista/7: Users\User\AppData\Local This folder saves time and large files (time hours, cache, etc.) Still, save this folder in a unique way, but just in case, check the folder.

All Users\Application data XP: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Vista/7: ProgramData In this folder you can save files that are common to all your computers, such as a private database, a collection of common documents, clipart i t .d. . This father can save data about the setup of programs because at the time of installation, a single setup was installed for all computers. But in this situation, personal adjustments are not saved here.

The registry is lost. As a matter of fact, the program parameters for each individual patient are also saved. The registry is saved in the folder C:\\Documents and Settings\\. (C:\Users) The file is called NTUSER. DAT

Unfortunately, here you will be confused - it is impossible to update data deleted from the registry (or rather, it is possible only from a backup copy created within the “update point”).

Only those who, when the uninstaller program is installed, rarely clean out the registry after themselves (in fact, the registry of “old” Windows desktops “swells”, increasing in size many times).

So, we looked through all the folders, updated everything we could, and copied the updated files into the time folder.

Now you need to re-install the program, and then carefully transfer all the updated files to the folders where they were (even if you remembered their location?)

In 7 cases out of 10, when these manipulations are carried out, the programs are updated. I have transferred programs from one computer to another in this way more than once (for example, an FTP program - when you think about how many passwords you need to remember and enter manually - it becomes really scary!)

Unfortunately, the update will not be released all the time - since the data was saved in the registry, you can only get the system updated before the due date.

Of course, you can “cheat” here - copy the corresponding details to the registry, then update the system again and import them into the registry to save the details, but this will still smell like some sophisticated concerns. It’s not so important that there will be adjustments in order to expend as much energy on their renewal.

However, as I already wrote on the beginning of this article, with the advent of Windows 7 everything became much easier.
