Almost the first thing a person sees when driving a Mazda CX 5 for the first time is an on-board computer monitor or, as it would be more correct from a technical point of view, the head unit (GU) of a multimedia system. In 2012, when the first generation of the Mazda CX 5 rolled off the assembly line, this system almost caused delight. However, the enthusiasm soon died down, and there are a number of good reasons.
Disadvantages of the head unit
Let's start with an important caveat. Do not confuse the head unit of the multimedia system and the on-board computer that controls the operation of the car. These are completely independent systems.
- Screen. The first thing that causes criticism is the device screen. Nowadays, the diagonal of 5.8 cannot be called large, even for a smartphone, not to mention tablets. What can we say about a device that should be easy to read with peripheral vision and easy to operate. The second nuisance of the screen is the resolution of 480 × 360. No comment.
- Incompatibility. Mazda head units use their own operating system, so they do not allow installing new software designed for Android or Ios.
- Navigation. Stock navigation TomTom has serious errors for most of Russia. Why can't the navigation program be replaced? See the previous point.
- Lack of radio memory. When the engine is turned off and on again, playback starts from the first track. This is a nuisance for music lovers, but simply "knocks down" audiobook lovers.
- Navigating the memory card. All files from a flash drive in the system browser are arranged in alphabetical order without splitting into folders - their contents are mixed.
Unfortunately, many shortcomings were never eliminated after the 2014 restyling, which necessitated the replacement and flashing of the standard "head".
Firmware
You can reflash the Mazda CX 5 head unit yourself:
- The firmware is downloaded to a flash drive with a volume of 8 GB or higher.
- Disabled "StartStopEngine" - make sure it is disabled by checking the disappearance of the corresponding icon.
- Firmware media is plugged into the port.
- StartStopEngine turns on again - make sure the icon appears.
- The sound comes on. Otherwise, the system will be in standby mode.
- To call the dialog box, hold down "multimedia", "favorites", "sound" for 2 seconds.
- The following commands are entered: "3" - "Enter", "99" - "Enter"
- The menu item "Reinstallation" - "Installation" is selected.
- The reinstallation process begins.
After the reinstallation is complete (a welcome screen appears), you need to reboot the system. After that, the Mazda CX 5 head unit can be used normally.
When you see the new 2017 Mazda CX-5 for the first time, you involuntarily ask yourself: is this the next generation of the crossover, or is it simply a "facelift" with a significant revision of the technical filling? This question arises quite naturally, because from the point of view of design the car has changed only "pointwise", and it is very difficult to see innovations in appearance with an inexperienced eye. In fact, we are not talking about a deep restyling of a familiar car, but really about a next generation model, all the bonuses of which can be really appreciated only after specific practical application. Design
The outlines of the radiator lining, as well as the expressive lines and proportions of the SUV remained the same - however, in the lower part of the 5-angle radiator grille there is a rather large chrome edging with such “horns” that adjoin the head optics from below. The front part of the bonnet hangs over the grille, which has lost its transverse slats and received a sporty fine-mesh structure, in the form of a kind of visor. This is where the noticeable changes in the exterior end.
The rest of the body elements are well known, and the reason why they have not changed can be explained by the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupery: "perfection is achieved not when there is nothing to add, but when there is nothing to take away." The words of the famous French writer perfectly match the strict and laconic "look" of the car, created by Mazda chief designer Ikuo Maeda. So what we end up with: an aggressive look for headlights, a massive radiator grille, powerful wheels, a dynamic and recognizable worldwide silhouette, stylish rear optics and a pair of round exhaust pipes at the "stern". Beauty and minimalism - once again the Japanese manufacturer made a bet on them and did not lose!
Design
The first CX-5 was famous for having one of the best-tuned suspensions in its class, and the second-generation model has it even better, and the characteristic Mazda enthusiasm is still here. In front of the novelty there are MacPherson struts, and in the back there is a multi-link, with shock absorber pistons of increased diameter. At the front, liquid-filled silent blocks are used to prevent sway and vibration at the time of the car's roll.
Adaptation to Russian conditions
Mazda engineers managed to accomplish a miracle - to preserve the proprietary handling and at the same time to radically improve the ride and sound insulation, which is a good reason to consider the new product not as a result of another restyling, but as a model of the next generation. For the sake of improving sound insulation, the CX-5 added 40 kg in weight - most of the weight fell on the additional "noise". The plastic wheel arch covers in the luggage compartment were completely covered with a soft soundproofing coating. In addition, a special "acoustic" glass was used, the wipers were lowered a little lower under the rear edge of the hood and the door seals were changed, as a result of which the Japanese crossover in terms of noise level can now seriously compete with premium cars - for example, with the BMW X3 and Jaguar F-Pace. Thanks to the higher quality "Shumka" and excellent handling, the second CX-5 is an excellent solution for Russian roads, even off-road, since there is an intelligent four-wheel drive and a solid ground clearance of 193 mm.
Comfort
Convenience, convenience and again convenience - this is the motto of the interior of the updated CX-5. Drivers here will definitely like better finishing materials, a soft dashboard with fashionable stitching, heated steering wheel and windshield in the wipers' rest zone ... Obviously, when developing the interior, Mazda was guided by the fact that the human brain perceives information mainly not only through the eyes, but also through tactile sensations. The main know-how in the "Japanese" cabin is the direct sight projection screen (HUD), which is a fairly inexpensive but very effective solution in the field of active safety. The principle of its operation is as follows: information important for the driver is projected not on the windshield, but on an inclined transparent display, "prescribed" behind the visor of the instrument panel. Thanks to this, you do not have to be distracted from driving in order to look at the speed indicators and navigation tips, because they are always in front of your eyes.
As for the back row passengers, they will surely like the ability to change the angle of the back of the sofa. Everyone will be delighted with the electronic tailgate, not just because it provides additional comfort, but because it signals the CX-5's transition to a new level. The rest of the interior details are actually the same - in fact, they were not touched for the same reason that they did not radically change anything in the exterior. In other words, the principle worked: one does not seek good from good.
The 2017 CX-5 equipment list, depending on the configuration, includes front and side airbags, parking sensors, a rear view camera, driver fatigue and tire pressure sensors, G-Vectoring Control with modified settings (GVC improves handling by using dynamic torque control), an updated version of the Mazda i-Activsense safety package, and more. Above the center console now rises a new seven-inch WVGA display of the proprietary MZD Connect media system, similar to a tablet. This infotainment complex is capable of synchronizing with a mobile device and providing access to the Internet, social networks and other multimedia functions, and also has built-in navigation, data for which can be recorded on SD cards. And the premium Bose audio system with a bunch of speakers and MP3 support is responsible for high-quality music.
Mazda CX-5 Specifications
