How to disable Norton Internet Security for a while. Norton Security - make all online alarms a thing of the past

Many anti-virus systems are not easy to disable - protection settings are often set so that malware cannot bypass them. At the same time, a complete shutdown of the program is impossible by simply exiting it - it is only possible to temporarily disable protection or terminate the process forcibly through the task manager or uninstall the program.

Instructions

  • Open the main window of Norton Antivirus. In the settings of protection parameters in the "Automatic protection" tab, set the value of temporary disabling of protection - an hour, two, until the computer is restarted, etc. At the same time, you cannot completely disable the program, since such an item is not provided by the developers at all. This is due to the special protection settings of your file system; many malicious programs can terminate applications on behalf of the user.
  • Try disabling your antivirus in another way. Press the Alt + Ctrl + Del key combination, and a small window will appear on your screen - this is the task manager. Select the "Processes" tab in it, find the word EGUI.
  • Right-click on it and select End Process or End Process Tree. The system will issue a warning that this action may affect the operation of other programs, so disable the antivirus only if it is really necessary and do not forget to enable it for further protection later.
  • If you want to disable the Norton antivirus system and then uninstall it, click on the "Start" menu, select the "Norton Internet Security" folder in the installed programs. Select, if available, the item "Uninstall the program" and, following the instructions of the system, perform the desired action. You can also uninstall the program through the "Control Panel" by going to the "Add or Remove Programs" menu.
  • Find the antivirus program in the list, select "Uninstall". If the system fails to uninstall because the program is running, use the task manager and end the process in the same way as described in the previous step. This item is not recommended for use, since the computer must be protected by an anti-virus system.

In most cases, the installation of programs is blocked, and therefore, for further installation, you must disable the antivirus.

    You will need

    • Computer installed with Norton antivirus

    Instructions

  • If you need to disable your antivirus software, there are two most common ways you can do it. Both methods are simple enough to complete in a matter of seconds. It is worth examining them in more detail.
  • Disable Norton antivirus through the application service menu. Paying attention to the system tray, you will see the active antivirus icon. If the icon is not visible, click on the arrow (in this case, hidden icons will become available). Right-click on the antivirus shortcut, then select "Stop protection". Please note that you can not only completely stop Norton's work, but also set a certain time during which the program will be inactive. This parameter is also set through the service menu. After the pause time you specified, the program will be restarted by the system in automatic mode.
  • Sometimes the program may not respond to your requests. In such cases, you need to terminate her work. This is also done using the system tray. Right-click on the program shortcut in the tray, then select "Exit". Thus, the work of the antivirus will be completely stopped. To re-enable the program, you will have to launch it via a bootable shortcut.
  • If you cannot quit the program, you can force quit it. To do this, press the "Ctrl + Alt + Del" key combination, then open the "Processes" tab. Select the required process and right-click on it. In the window that appears, click on the "End process tree" item and confirm the operation. The antivirus will be disabled.

    Why disable

    Any antivirus includes a component that protects it from various malicious influences. So, many viruses can correct the operation of such applications for their distribution.

    Self-defense provides a prohibition:

    Tip: Not all features may be available on older operating systems.

    However, sometimes it becomes necessary to disable the Norton Internet Security antivirus.

    Such a need may appear in several cases:

    Anti-virus stopping methods

    There are several methods to disable self-defense. All of them are extremely simple and allow in the future to perform any manipulations, up to removal

    Application tab "Auto-Protect"

    The algorithm is simple:

    Task Manager

    There is another way to disable it - through the task manager:

    As a result, Norton will be suspended. The next time you restart your computer, it will turn on again.

    Disable Norton and then uninstall

    In order to completely deactivate the antivirus, you must turn off self-defense. This procedure is required in order to uninstall the program.

    It is produced like this:

    Photo: select the section "product safety"

    1. in the application itself we find the item "parameters" and open it;
    2. then we look for the "detailed parameters" tab;
    3. in it you need to find the item "administration settings";
    4. a window will open in which we find the section "product security". At the bottom there is a line "protection against changes" - in it we set the switch to the Off mode;
    5. after that we press the "apply" button for the changes to take effect;
    6. further in the section "security request" we find the item for choosing the duration. It is required to set the time during which self-protection will be disabled;
    7. at the end, click on the "Ok" button and close the program.

    Now you can uninstall the application completely. In some cases, this may require stopping all processes (as in the previous paragraph).

    Important! You cannot be on the Internet without an active antivirus. Therefore, after installing Norton, you must immediately install another. Otherwise, you endanger the security of your computer.

    Disabling protection elements

    In some cases, it may be necessary to disable individual security features.

    This is done in the main menu as follows:

    Finally, it is worth noting that the manipulations described above can be performed only in extreme cases (for example, for uninstalling). In other cases, it is undesirable to do this, as it can compromise the security of the entire system.

    Disabling antivirus software routinely isn't always a trivial task. Most antivirus software developers add additional protection to their product. One of these protective functions is protection against spontaneous shutdown and from stopping work due to the influence of a virus program. It is not so easy to disable antivirus on your own, because some viruses can imitate human actions on a computer, and this factor was taken into account by the antivirus developers.

    Instructions

    • Open the Start menu and go to the All Programs section.
    • Find and expand the Norton Internet Security directory.
    • Select "Uninstall" or "Uninstall the program" and follow the instructions of the uninstaller.

    4. It is not always possible to uninstall the antivirus using the above method; this operation can be performed through the standard application "Remove Programs". Open the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel". In the window that opens, click "Uninstall Programs" or "Programs and Features" (Depends on the version of Windows). The list of installed programs will be loaded, select the line with the name of the antivirus and click the "Remove" button. If an error appears that is related to the fact that the antivirus is running, then follow the steps described in point 2 and try again.

    Video: How to disable Norton antivirus

    Most users have faced a situation when the antivirus did not allow opening a file downloaded from the Internet, saying that it was infected with a virus. In most cases, this is convenient and useful, but there are exceptions: you want to download an activator, crack or a database of serial numbers. Fortunately, almost any antivirus can be temporarily or completely deactivated. Let's take a look at how you can disable Norton Internet Security in the latest 2013 version. All previous reincarnations of the popular antivirus are managed in a similar way.

    Disabling virus protection completely

    Right-click on the Norton Internet Security antivirus icon in the tray and select the item Disable automatic virus protection

    In the window that appears, select the duration of the shutdown. Optionally, you can turn off Norton antivirus for the entire time or until the first reboot. In any case, try to work as little as possible without protection enabled. After selecting the desired option, click on the OK button.

    As a result, a message will appear stating that the antivirus was successfully disabled.

    Turn on protection

    To resume protection earlier than the selected period, just right-click again on the antivirus end in the system tray and select Enable automatic virus protection.

    Disabling individual protection elements

    If you need to disable individual protection elements, this can be done in the antivirus settings. To do this, double-click the left button on the antivirus icon in the tray. The program window will appear, select the Settings menu item.

    You have installed Norton Antivirus and now you have add-ons installed on Chrome or Firefox, and Norton also displays notifications, suggestions, and sounds. How do you disable all of this and keep Norton Antivirus out of your way?

    We recommend that you always install antivirus software on your computer. There are many programs on the market such as Avast or Norton. However, these antiviruses can be packed with annoying features. Browser add-ons are added to protect you, you get continuous question notifications, and there are messages from time to time urging you to switch to the paid version.

    However, all of these elements can be disabled. We described this earlier using the example of disabling sounds and notifications in Avast Antivirus. This time, we'll take a look at another popular antivirus package, which is Norton Antivirus.

    1. Remove Norton Add-ons from Web Browsers

    One of the more frustrating things to see after installing Norton antivirus software is the add-ons installed in web browsers. If you are using Chrome or Firefox, your browser will now show add-ons for additional browsing protection. In practice, however, their performance is not impressive and can sometimes even cause bugs or problems.

    • Remove Norton Chrome add-ons

    To remove Norton Add-ons from the Chrome browser, launch the browser and open the menu in the upper right corner. Select from the menu More Tools\u003e Extensions.

    A list of add-ons installed in Chrome will appear. You will find add-ons such as Norton Identity Safe or Norton Security Toolbar. Remove them by clicking on trash can icon next to each of them.

    • Remove Norton Add-ons from Firefox

    Firefox has only one Norton add-on that is responsible for displaying the toolbar. To remove it, go to the Firefox menu in the upper right corner and select "Additionally".

    The list includes the Norton Security Toolbar. Click on "Disable" to deactivate the add-on.

    • Remove Norton Add-ons from Internet Explorer

    Internet Explorer did not lag behind - Norton also prepared a set of add-ons for it. To remove them, turn on Internet Explorer and then open the menu in the upper right corner using the gear icon. Choose an option here "Add-on management".

    A new extension management window will appear. Make sure the "Toolbars and Extensions" option is selected on the left. A list of all installed add-ons is displayed on the right. Find the Norton add-ons section. There will be two extensions here - Norton Toolbar and Norton Identity Protection. Select both options and select the "Disable" option.

    2. Turn off notifications, sounds and other unnecessary messages in Norton

    The rest of the settings can now be configured directly in the Norton Antivirus settings. Click the Norton icon in the notification area to open its main window. Then select in the upper right corner "Setting".

    Norton has a feature to quickly block all background work and messages via Quiet Mode, which you can enable on the right. However, this is a temporary solution, because it is impossible to turn on the discrete mode forever - after a while everything returns to normal. That's why we'll show you how to permanently disable Norton's most intrusive features.

    • Advanced settings

    The first place where we turned off intrusive features is in advanced settings. In the settings window, go to the tab with advanced settings. You will see the following window.

    Find and deselect the following three features here:

    • 30 day report
    • Norton Activity Notifications
    • Special Offer Notifications

    The 30-day report feature displays a notification at the end of each month with a short description of all actions that have been performed in the last thirty days. Norton Activity Notifications are responsible for displaying Norton background execution messages (such as a scan start notification, etc.). In turn, special offer notifications are responsible for displaying messages encouraging, for example, upgrading to a paid version.

    Disabling the above three options will significantly reduce the number of notifications and messages displayed by Norton. Confirm the changes with the button Apply.

    • Anti-spam notifications

    Another thing that Norton demonstrates is its anti-spam notifications. They appear when using the Outlook mail client. Fortunately, you can turn them off.

    To do this, go to the tab in Norton "Setting" and select "Spam protection"... Then go to the tab "Integration with the email program".

    Here you can turn off all Norton email protection features. If you want to turn off Norton notifications when Outlook starts, uncheck Welcome screen.

    • Notifications after downloading files from the network

    Norton Antivirus has a very useful feature that checks files downloaded from the network. However, if you are annoyed by the fact that you get a message every time the file is ok and safe, you can disable it. Norton will only notify you if you download a suspicious or infected file.

    To do this, go to the section in Norton settings "Network" and select the tab Browser Intrusion Protection.Find the section here "Download Insight"- just below this field is called the field Msgstr "Load alerts".
