Relatively recently, a new development from the largest Russian search engine was presented - Yandex voice search.
This function allows you to enter search commands using your voice, that is, it works similarly to the already implemented system from Google.
How to use this function on the computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet and will be described in this material.
Benefits
Although this feature has not many fans and is not very widespread yet, some users have already appreciated its convenience and functionality. What are the advantages of Yandex voice search?
- This is a free module that does not need to be installed for normal operation. Yandex. Browser... Enough extension from Yandex, which can be installed in any browser;
- This module is distributed free of charge;
- It is well compatible with any browser, and works well even on old computers with low hardware resources;

The most significant drawback of this service is its rather high dependence on microphone parameters. If you pronounce your request too far from it or the sound transmission quality is low, the system will not be able to correctly recognize your request (while this happens often enough).
In this case, it will replace it with the phrase that is closest in sound to those that are often used from your computer. Or popular with users. After such an incorrect recognition, the only way to make a request is to register it manually from the keyboard.
Installation
The module mentioned above is the Yandex extension. Line. After installing this extension on your computer, an input field will appear on the bottom panel of the desktop search query in Yandex... It will be present not only during browser operation, but also when working offline.
Such a string is convenient in itself for users who often use search queries. In addition, Yandex voice search is implemented only with its help.

- After the installation is complete, it should appear at the bottom of the screen, on the panel with shortcuts and program buttons;
- If it doesn't, restart your computer.
After you have installed the Yandex.Stroka program, you automatically have access to voice search using this extension. Search, just like a string, will work like with open browserand when working with programs offline.
Using
If you work with a personal PC, then for the module to work correctly you need to connect an external microphone. Connect the device and configure it via device Manager... On laptops, sometimes you also need to make some settings for the microphone and allow it to access external applications.
How to use this application and the line as a whole? First of all, the string can be used as a standard search engine. That is, enter a search query into it from the keyboard.
After pressing the Enter button, the system will automatically open your default browser, and in it - the results of the search query in Yandex. Of course, this requires that the Internet be connected on the computer.
Voice search is multifunctional. It allows you to enter not only the usual search queries, but also search for applications, site addresses, etc. In order to set any query, proceed according to the algorithm:
- Find the button with the microphone icon on the right, installed on the bottom panel of the Yandex search bar, and click on it;
- Say a key phrase;
- The engine of the module processes the voice command, after which it appears in the line (this happens very quickly);
- Then press the Enter button and use the results in the same way as for a regular query from the keyboard.
Search algorithms through a string are no different from standard Yandex algorithms. In the same way, a list of results for a query is built. And all other search parameters are also completely characteristic of the Yandex.
A handy feature is its own automatically generated bookmark bar. It is formed from the most frequently visited sites. You can see it if you click on the search bar at the bottom of the window.
Also at the bottom of the window you can find your last search request through the Yandex.String system. It also contains his most popular interpretations received from other users.

In order to get acquainted with the main functionality of this application, you need to click on the microphone button and say "Listen, Yandex". After that, a window will open in which the main functionality of this application is listed.
After that, for example, it becomes clear that the string interacts not only with the Internet, but also with the computer. For example, you can restart your computer, open Word or another program using this application.

Settings
The application does not require complex or lengthy settings. To call me settings, place the cursor on the search bar and right-click on it. A small menu will open, the first item of which will be "Settings".
- Here you can configure hotkeys for calling Yandex Strings. By default, the combination is CTRL + ё, but you can specify a more convenient option. To do this, enter it manually in the field Search bar in the Hotkeys section;
- Section Working with files helps you determine what exactly the system will do with the file that you request through the line. If you want to run the file itself, set the marker in the window opposite the inscription Open found file... If it is more convenient to see it in the folder - set the marker opposite another line;
- In chapter Opening web search results you can choose whether you want to see search results in a browser or in a special Yandex. Strings;
- Checkmark in the section Search options it is better not to shoot, as it is needed for the application to work correctly after pC updates or installing new files.

The application does not take up much memory and runs even on older computers.
As you may recall, Google recently abandoned a project to introduce a voice search function in Chrome. But the Yandex company decided not to graze the back ones, and has in store a similar function for its users, creating the Yandex.Stroka project. This module does not require the installation of a browser from Yandex, moreover, it is available absolutely free of charge, which brings another huge "plus" to the developers' piggy bank. So, install the Yandex.Stroka service on your computer. To do this, go to the official page of the project and download the plugin to provide voice search. After installing the plug-in, a new line appears in the taskbar, where you can enter text and voice commands. As we said earlier, the plug-in works completely in isolation from the browser, so you don't need to install a web navigator from Yandex in order to use search.
It is worth saying that with this application you can set not only ordinary search queries, but also search for the names of sites and applications. To set a voice request, click on the microphone icon on the right side of the plug-in and say a key phrase. The search engine will process your speech and the request will appear in the search bar in the Yandex.Stroka program.
It is important to note that the interpreter does not always correctly recognize your phrase. Sometimes a module simply replaces your actual query with the closest pronunciation phrase, after which you have to use regular typescript.
Another useful option: by clicking on the search bar at the bottom, a list of the most frequently visited sites will open in front of you, from which you can select the resource you need and instantly go to it. The bottom of the window displays your most recent query and its most popular interpretations from the search engine.
Let's take a closer look at the main functionality of the application. We activate the voice mode by clicking the icon with the microphone, and instead of the usual request, say into the microphone: "Listen, Yandex!" A list of the main features of the module will appear on the screen, from which you can find out what actions the application can perform and what commands can be given to it for processing. For example, from here we can learn that using the voice engine, you can execute the command "Restart (or turn off) the computer", listen to music, open any application, and do a lot of other things.
Now a few words about the application settings. The context menu of Yandex voice search settings is invoked by right-clicking on the search bar. The first item in this menu is determined by the "Settings" element. What optional features are in store for us here?
First of all, this is a combination of hotkeys for invoking the Yandex search bar. By default, the combination is “Ctrl + ё”, but you can specify a better option by entering it in the appropriate field in the “Hot Keys” section.
The next category "Working with files" is responsible for what actions will be taken by the application in case of voice input of the name of the desired file. By default, the file found based on the received request will be opened and launched, but you can limit the actions of the described service to the banal opening of the folder with the file.
Another point is opening web search results. If you search for a site name in Yandex.String, the found values \u200b\u200bare displayed in the default browser by default. Instead, you can display the web search results in the service window, which may be less convenient, because when you open a link in a browser, you can immediately open it, and from the application window it will have to be transferred to the browser manually.
A few words about usability. You can also change the location of the panel and place it not next to the start button, as it looks in the default visual settings, but close to the clock, ie. on the right side of the taskbar.
The last available option in the settings is voice activation. By default, it is activated when pronouncing the phrase "Listen, Yandex!", But we can turn it off, limiting ourselves to text commands only.
As you can see, the functionality of Yandex voice search is quite extensive. We can search not only on the Internet, but also set commands to perform actions on our computer (such as launching a certain program, shutting down the computer, finding the corresponding file, etc.).
The only noticed drawback is that the program does not "learn" to correctly recognize your requests in accordance with individual auditory intonations and timbre. If in the voice search from Google on Android you could correct incorrectly entered commands by adapting the voice engine to the peculiarities of your voice, then in the service described in the article, the adaptation possibilities are rather limited. But in general, the functionality of the module deserves the highest praise.
Voice search is used to ask a search engine a question without using a keyboard. This technology has long been used on smartphones and tablets, where it is easier to say a phrase than to type it on an on-screen keyboard. Not everyone knows that there is also a voice search on the computer.
If a keyboard is used for the computer, what is needed for voice search?
What you need for voice search on your computer
First of all, you need a microphone, which is found on almost all laptops where it is a built-in device, and for a desktop computer you will need to purchase a microphone if it is not available. If your desktop PC has a video camera, for example, connected to a USB port, then a microphone may be built into it, and then another microphone is not required.
In addition to a microphone, you need an internet connection.
As for the software for voice search, you can use any browser of your choice:
- Google Chrome or
- Yandex browser.
What does voice search look like through Google Chrome
The information that in order to search by voice you need to somehow connect and still configure the "Ok, Google" function is now outdated. Now you just need to use the latest version of the Google Chrome browser, where the speech recognition option is already built in automatically.
The easiest way to understand if Google Chrome has a voice search is by the presence of a microphone icon in the Google search bar:

How to update Google Chrome to get voice search
If you do not have a microphone icon, then you just need to update the version of your Google Chrome browser.

To check the version of Google Chrome and automatically update to the new version:
1 in fig. 2 - click on the icon with three vertical dots "Configuring and managing Google Chrome";
2 in Fig. 2 - open the "Help" option;
3 in Fig. 2 - click "About Google Chrome browser", after which the check of your browser version starts automatically. If there are updates, they are immediately installed, without additional action on your part.

To make your speech understandable to Google Chrome, you should speak clearly, as if chasing each word and making a micro-pause after each word.
At the request: "How to get to the clinic", a request for permission to access your geolocation will appear, which looks approximately the same as a request to use a microphone (Fig. 4).
If Google Chrome does not find a specific answer to your request, then it will offer links to resources where you can find the answer.
If you have an account () in Google, then you can enter Google Chrome using your mail at gmail.com. Then all your settings and search results will be saved: routes in Google maps, reminders in the calendar and others.
Voice search does not work: is the microphone on?
Have you updated Google Chrome as described above and voice search still doesn't work? It is worth checking how the microphone “is doing” on your computer: whether it is on or not.
To do this, open the Control Panel and click “Sound” there (Fig. 6). In the “Sound” window, open the “Recording” tab and check there for a green check mark next to “Microphone”. If there is no such check mark, you must put it on and click “OK”.
