Skype starts white window - Skype won't start, what should I do? White screen appears when Skype starts: several ways to solve the problem Skype does not work white screen.

One of the irregularities possible when using the Skype messenger is a white screen at startup, without any errors or entries. Moreover, there is not even an authorization form. In other words, the problem does not arise after entering the login, but when trying to start. The only thing that the user can observe is the menu line. How can this problem be solved? But many people use the messenger when building a business, giving presentations, etc.

Causes and their elimination

There may be several factors causing such problems. Among them is an incorrectly functioning version of the application on a PC, the presence of viruses, a conflict with other software on a PC, and even the Internet Explorer browser. There are several ways to fix the problem.

Restore Internet Explorer manufacturer settings

It may seem strange that for its function, in order to meet the requirements of users, Skype uses the reserves of the IE browser. When it does not work correctly on the desktop, the user sees a white screen instead of the application. FIG 1

Therefore, you can try to reset IE settings. To this end, you need:

  • close all additional IE tabs, as well as Windows Explorer, while leaving the main browser tab;
  • in the upper right corner, click on the gear-shaped icon and go to the "Browser Properties" section (in some PCs, "Browser Properties"); FIG 2
  • in the window that opens, select the "Advanced" command and press the "Reset" key; FIG 3
  • in the pop-up window, confirm the last action "Reset" again. FIG 4

Checking if IE is working correctly

If this method does not bring positive results, you can run a system health check. If system files are found to be corrupted, it will repair them. To carry out this procedure, you must:

  • run the option with privileged rights (in the case of Windows 10, press RMB on the "Start" button and select "Command line (administrator)" in the menu that opens, in the lower version open the search box and enter the CMD query, click on the RMB result and select "Run on behalf of the administrator "); FIG 5 & 6
  • when a terminal window is displayed on the screen, you need to run a system file check using the sfc / scannow command.

The process of scanning the system is quite lengthy, so the desktop needs to work up to several hours. At the end of the verification process, when Windows removes all damage, it remains to restart the PC and check the correctness of Skype.

Reinstalling the messenger

A possible reason that a blank screen appears when you start running the application is that it is not functioning correctly. In a similar situation, you can restart it. To do this, do:

  • stopping the application by resorting to the Windows Task Manager; FIG 7
  • opening the "Run" window by pressing the Win + R key combination on the keyboard;
  • entering the command "% APPDATA% \\" in the field that opens and clicking on the "Ok" option. FIG 8

Next, we find the Skype folder. If it is not categorically important for you to save chat dialogs and other data, just delete it. Otherwise, just rename the folder. FIG 9We remove the application using the Windows program uninstall and change service. After that, we perform the standard procedure for installing the application. FIG 10

So, let's launch the application. In case of successful launch, close the program and transfer the main.db file from the renamed folder to the newly created Skype directory. In other words, we will restore the correspondence.

If the launch fails, we delete the new Skype folder, while returning the old name to the old one. And we continue to look for the cause of the problem. FIG 11

System Restore

In the Windows operating system, the developers provide an option designed to help return the PC's performance to the starting point when it was correct. To do this, you need to do:

  • entrance to the "Control Panel";
  • moving to the "Recovery" department; FIG 12
  • selection, in the window that appears, the command "Start System Restore"; FIG 13
  • selection of the point among the highlighted available rollback points when the messenger was functioning correctly.

Create a new shortcut

  • close the program by clicking on the RMB shortcut in the tray;
  • select the command "Quit Skype" in the context menu; FIG 14
  • click in the free space of the RMB screen and go to the "Create" command, then "Shortcut"; FIG 15
  • in the window that appears, set the location of the executable file of the downloaded application, for which click on the "Browse" option; FIG 16
  • in the explorer that opens, find this file by the link C: \\ Program Files \\ Skype \\ Phone;
  • select the file with a mouse click, and click on "Ok"; FIG 17
  • click on "Next"; FIG 18
  • complete the procedure by clicking on "Finish". FIG 19

Now try entering the application using a new shortcut.

Using the LoginCleanup File

This method removes all user files from the PC by applying the LoginCleanup. To do this, you need to do:

  • loading this file;
  • unzip the archive and launch the attached document (File).

This file will automatically close the program and clean up, after which it will also automatically start it. You just have to check the application for damage.

Other ways to fix the problem

Sometimes the reason that when you try to start the messenger, the screen is like a white sheet, it is the unregistered Internet Explorer files in the Windows registry.

Registration of system files

First, you need to close the application and the browser. Further, the algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • press the key combination Win + R on the keyboard to open the "Run" window;
  • sequentially drive into the window the text "regsvr32 ... .." each time instead of ellipsis add: ... Ole32.dll; ... Inseng.dll; ... Oleaut32.dll; … Mssip32.dll;… Urlmon.dll;
  • after each entry, press the "OK" button. FIG 20

Reinstall IE

If after all the procedures carried out, you can not still enter the application, do not even have the opportunity to enter a password and login, how to react in this case?

You can turn off Skype and Internet Explorer for a while. It is important to understand that in this case, the application will not be able to give access to the main page, as well as to some other small options. However, logging into your account, making calls, chatting is possible.

In order to disconnect Skype from Internet Explorer, you need:

  • remove the application shortcut on the desktop;
  • using the help of the explorer, go to the link C: \\ Program Files \\ Skype \\ Phone;
  • right click on the Skype.exe document and select "Create shortcut"; FIG 21

Recently faced an unusual problem for me when launching Skype. The computer is running the long-gone and officially unsupported Windows XP operating system. Yes, but a certain percentage of users still sit on it! :) When you start skype, as usual, a window appears for entering a login and password, and then, after entering these data, nothing happens at all. Just a white window with the ability to only return to the previous erkna to try again! The problem turned out to be wrong and it is simply corrected, and after Skype still managed to start, I decided to write this article, where I will share how to solve it.

The first thing that came to my mind when I faced a similar problem was some kind of temporary problem with the Internet. I rebooted the router, reconnected to the Internet, the problem was not solved. Then I tried the right solution that saves from most problems (and this applies to all programs) - reinstalling Skype. After reinstalling, to my surprise, Skype didn't work.

And what I just didn’t try, I had to try different solutions from the Internet and none of them helped. In the course of long dances with a tambourine, he still won the problem.

The whole point is that Skype has once again been updated and this update completely blocked the ability to log in to your Skype account for some reason. While I was looking for possible reasons for the appearance of such a problem and ways to solve it, I realized that, as a rule, this happens due to incorrect settings of the standard browser in Windows - Internet Explorer or because of the Internet connection.

The only thing that helped me in this situation was installing one of the older versions of Skype. The latest version at that time was 7.30, and I found and installed one of the 6 versions (I don't remember more precisely). After installing the old version, Skype suddenly started working! Well, as soon as he entered Skype, he immediately forbade him to update. In principle, everything is so clear, a very old operating system (Windows XP) and there are already very many problems on it with many programs, some do not start at all, and some I work with various kinds of jambs.

However, reinstalling Skype to an older version is an extreme case and it is better to try other options first.

A similar problem occurs on other Windows operating systems after Windows XP.

Method number 1. Easy reinstallation of Skype

First of all, if you are faced with a white window problem when starting Skype, just try reinstalling Skype. To do this, you must first remove the existing version of Skype from your computer, and then download the newest version from the Internet and install it.

The correct order is:

  1. Remove the currently installed version of Skype and restart your computer;
  2. Go to the official website of the Skype program:

    By clicking the download button, download the Skype installation file to your computer.

  3. Install skype again from the said file and restart your computer.

After that, try starting skype and logging into your account. Often, a simple reinstallation can fix Skype problems.

Method number 2. Reset Internet Explorer browser settings.

Sometimes Skype shows a white window after entering a username and password due to incorrect settings of the standard Internet Explorer browser, because it is from it that it takes some connection settings.

This solution is very simple:

As a result, the settings of the Internet Explorer browser with which Skype is associated will be completely reset. Restart your computer and try to sign in to your Skype account again.

Method number 3. Change settings for a shortcut to launch Skype

Often, the problem with launching Skype is associated with some problems in the operation of the Internet Explorer browser, which is already indicated by the above described method No. 2. In this browser, for some reason, JavaScript may not work or work incorrectly, and without it, it is just impossible to further launch Skype. There is an option to try to get around this by adding a special command to the shortcut through which you launch Skype.

So, you need to do the following:

Now try starting Skype.

Method number 4. Installing an older version of Skype

This is exactly the way that helped me deal with the problem on Windows XP. You need to download one of the old versions of Skype, for example, some of the 6 and install it instead of the new one available now. Unfortunately, there is no archive of Skype versions on the official website of the Skype program, that is, only the latest version can be downloaded from there, but these old versions can be found on other sites on the Internet.

So that you don't have to surf the Internet in search of an old version of Skype, if you want to try this way of solving the problem and God forbid, even grab a virus from some site, I have uploaded several versions of Skype to the cloud drive, which you can safely download.

One of the problems that Skype users may encounter is a white screen at startup. Worst of all, the user can't even try to log into their account. Let's find out what caused this phenomenon, and what are the ways to fix this problem.

One of the reasons why a white screen might appear when Skype starts is if the Internet connection is cut off while Skype is loading. But there can be a lot of reasons for the break itself: from problems on the side of the provider to modem malfunctions, or short circuits in local networks.

Accordingly, the solution is either to find out the reasons from the provider, or to repair the breakdown on the spot.

IE glitches

As you know, Skype uses the Internet Explorer browser as the engine. Namely, the problems of this browser can cause a white window to appear when entering the program. In order to fix this, first of all, you need to try to reset IE settings.

Close Skype and launch IE. Go to the settings section by clicking on the gear located in the upper right corner of the browser. In the list that appears, select the "Internet Options" item.

In the window that opens, go to the "Advanced" tab. Click on the "Reset" button.

Then, another window opens, in which you should check the box next to "Delete personal settings". We do this and click on the "Reset" button.

After that, you can start Skype and check its performance.

If these steps did not help, close Skype and IE. By pressing the keyboard shortcuts Win + R, open the "Run" window.

We sequentially drive the following commands into this window:

  • regsvr32 Ole32.dll
  • regsvr32 Inseng.dll
  • regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
  • regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
  • regsvr32 Urlmon.dll.

After entering each individual command from the presented list, click on the "OK" button.

The point is that the white screen problem occurs when one of the given IE files, for some reason, is not registered in the Windows system registry. This is the way registration is carried out.

But, in this case, you can do it differently - reinstall Internet Explorer.

If none of the above manipulations with the browser yielded results, and the screen in Skype is still white, then you can temporarily disable the connection between Skype and Internet Explorer. At the same time, the main page and some other minor functions will not be available in Skype, but, on the other hand, it will be possible to log into your account, make calls, and carry on correspondence without any problems, getting rid of the white screen.

In order to disconnect Skype from IE, delete the Skype shortcut on the desktop. Next, using the explorer, go to the address C: \\ Program Files \\ Skype \\ Phone, right-click on the Skype.exe file, and select the "Create shortcut" item.

After creating a shortcut, return to the Desktop, right-click on the shortcut, and select the "Properties" item.

In the "Shortcut" tab of the opened window, look for the "Object" field. Add the value "/ legacylogin" without quotes to the expression that is already in the field. Click on the "OK" button.

Now, when you click on this shortcut, a version of Skype will be launched that is not associated with the Internet Explorer browser.

Reinstall Skype with factory reset

A universal way to fix problems with Skype is to reinstall the application and factory reset. Of course, this does not guarantee 100% elimination of the problem, but, nevertheless, it is a way out to solve the problem with many types of malfunctions, including when a white screen occurs when Skype starts.

We launch the program. If the launch was successful and there is no white screen, then again close the application and move the main.db file from the renamed folder to the newly generated Skype directory. Thus, we will refund the correspondence. Otherwise, just delete the new Skype folder, and return the old name to the old folder. We continue to look for the reason for the white screen elsewhere.

As you can see, the reasons for the white screen in Skype can be completely different. But, if this is not a banal disconnection during connection, then with a high probability it can be assumed that the root cause of the problem should be looked for in the functionality of the Internet Explorer browser.

"When you start Skype, there is no login and password input field"

This kind of garbage arises unexpectedly as always. It worked, Skype worked, and then bam (!) And an empty window at startup. Neither you enter a login nor a password, and even if it was launched automatically without asking for data, it is still an empty window.

So there is no need to panic. For those who are worried about their contact list or messages on Skype, I can reassure you that they will not disappear (if you don't try hard).

What is the reason? As it turned out, the stable operation of new versions of Skype (starting from 5.5) depends on Internet Explorer (IE) and Windows Scripting Engine. Skype authorization requires JavaScript access and ActiveX execution. On some systems with certain IE settings, these tasks are not performed as expected, which is why Skype authorization problems appear.

What can be done in this situation? I will describe several possible options.
Here's one that worked for me personally:

  • Exit Skype (right-click on Skype in the tray\u003e Exit). Make sure the skype.exe process is complete in Windows Task Manager. If necessary, close the process if it is still active
  • Open the folder C: \\ Program Files \\ or C: \\ Program Files (x86) \\ (if you have a 64 bit system)
  • Find the Skype folder and the Phone folder in it
  • Right click on Skype.exe and select Send to Desktop (create a Skype shortcut on your desktop)
  • Now, right click on the shortcut you just created, go to Properties and select the Shortcut tab
  • The Target field will be "C: \\ Program Files \\ Skype \\ Phone \\ Skype.exe" (or (x86) if you have 64 bit Windows)
  • Click in this field. After the quotes on the right side, put a space and write / legacylogin
  • Now the text in the Target field will be "C: \\ Program Files \\ Skype \\ Phone \\ Skype.exe" / legacylogin
  • Click OK to save the settings. Start Skype using this shortcut

The / legacylogin switch should launch Skype through the old login window, which does not require IE components.

As for the global bug fix, here are the possible options:

1 - The problem is solved by running an earlier version of Skype - from 5.3. and earlier (logically from the above);

2 - Remove Skype, then START -\u003e EXECUTE (enter the command) regsvr32 jscript.dll and press OK... A window will appear where we press again OK... Then again the START menu -\u003e EXECUTE and enter the following command: regsvr32 vbscript.dll and press OK. After that, we install skype.

3 - Re-registering libraries for Windows 7 64x:

a) Click START .
b) In the search box, enter "command line" .
c) In the list of results, right-click on "Command line" and select the command "Run as administrator «.
d) type the following command and press Enter.

cd \\
cd windows \\ SysWOW64
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

regsvr32 jscript9.dll

Restart the system.

4 - You can try to update IE to the latest version using Windows Update or uninstall IE and install it over a new one. Also, you can try to reset IE settings to factory (default). Or, on the contrary, roll back, for example, from version 9 to version 8.

5 - It may be necessary to combine these methods to achieve the result.

In general, good luck in bringing Skype back to normal.

Sometimes on old computers there is an unpleasant situation when, after opening the program, you see only one blank screen. More precisely, white window when starting Skypein which nothing is displayed at all. Let's try to figure out what is the reason for such an error, and also consider options for eliminating it.

Error reasons

Paradoxically, Skype isn't the problem. It lies in the Internet Explorer modules that it uses. Basically, by opening the account login window, we load the HTML page in the IE window. Through this page, the program communicates with a remote server and authorizes you as its user with a username and password.

Elimination

If you are experiencing this problem while the Internet is generally working, then the reason why Skype shows a white screen on startup is Internet Explorer. To combat the white screen, you can apply the following measures:

"C: \\ Program Files (x86) \\ Skype \\ Phone \\ Skype.exe" / legacylogin

For 32-bit systems, use the folder in the address Program Files... To enter Skype, double-click this shortcut and enter your username and password in the window that opens.
