Overall dimensions of the display asus nexus 7. Web browser is a software application for accessing and viewing information on the Internet

For two years of its existence, it has won an extensive user audience and the title of the most popular gadget in its segment. For the computer market, this became an extraordinary event, because it was almost impossible to buy an inexpensive device with really high-quality filling and regular updates from a famous brand.

After the appearance of the economical and comparatively nimble ASUS Google Nexus 7 on the latest Android platform, many were able to try a powerful multimedia assistant in business: reading, playing, surfing the Internet and watching videos - the gadget copes with all this easily and without problems.

After the release, "Nexus 7" became a real headache for Apple, making up tangible competition for the iPad mini. After fruitful cooperation of two famous brands "Google" and "Asus" their brainchild in the coming months occupies about 10% of the entire market for "Android" devices, which is more than an excellent indicator for one ASUS Nexus 7. The price of the device ranges from 10,000 rubles , which also makes many competitors in the segment nervous.

Google chooses a Taiwanese company as a partner again, and this is not surprising: with its rich experience in the field of tablets, coupled with high-quality assembly and relatively inexpensive materials, cooperation is extremely beneficial for both parties.

The flagship ASUS Nexus 7 2013 32Gb retained the same proportions, but looks more compact, and the technical specifications have been significantly improved. First of all, the owner will be delighted with the new screen, which has received a higher resolution, while maintaining the previous diagonal. You can also add a new generation processor, twice the amount of RAM of the device, increased autonomy and the appearance of a second camera in addition to the front one.

Along with the announcement of the new tablet, Google presented an updated version of Android, which along with all the software received the ASUS Nexus 7 touchscreen. The gadget with all its characteristics has become another and dangerous argument in the struggle between Google and Apple. User reviews are full of positive emotions, and judging by their quantity and quality, the new gadget is clearly in a better position than similar devices from Apple.

The pricing policy of the new model is more than favorable for the average user. For example, ASUS Nexus 7, whose price ranges from 12 thousand rubles, has 32 GB of internal memory and a full-size 3G network, and a more modest version with less memory will cost about 8-9 thousand rubles.

Design

The new gadget did not have any significant changes in terms of design, compared to previous models. The ASUS tablet is easily recognizable for its outlines, but it still has some additions.

The very concept of an oblong device with smooth contours and attractive side edges was not touched, but the new device is now thinner, and the weight, accordingly, is less than 50 g. "Nexus 7" has become more convenient in terms of mobility, you can take it with you by putting it in jacket or jacket pocket.

As in previous models, the back of the tablet is made of soft-touch plastic. The surface has extremely dark shades and continues to collect fingerprints and dust, judging by the feedback from the owners. The original drawing, which was previously present on the fifth and sixth versions, is gone, now the surface is smooth, except for the branded stamping in the center of the device with the name of the series.

Many users in their reviews are perplexed why designers abandoned the original and visually attractive surface, replacing it with a more utilitarian smooth plane, while losing an interesting design solution.

Compared to its predecessors, the ASUS Google Nexus 7 has stretched slightly upward and the width of the device has been slightly reduced. The difference may not be so noticeable visually, but now it has become more convenient to carry the gadget with you and just hold it in your hands. Ergonomics have improved significantly, but you have to operate the device, as before, with two hands.

Assembly

The overall impression of the assembly is positive, but with one nuance that users often note in reviews: if you press on the screen at the bottom of the tablet, the device emits an alarming creak. The previous lines suffered from a similar defect, but this moment did not affect the functionality or suitability of the device, so if you do not specifically "poke" this place, unpleasant clicks will not bother.

The renowned Android Authority lab recently conducted a crash test on the ASUS Nexus 7 32Gb 3G. Based on its results, ratings were given, according to which the tablet was classified as a relatively fragile device. When falling from a height of human growth onto a concrete / asphalt surface, the model received damage to the case (chips, cracks, glass intact), but there were no failures in work, so the repair cost little losses.

Interfaces

The controls of the ASUS Nexus 7 32Gb 3G are well placed and do not interfere with the device. On the left side, you can see a volume rocker and a screen lock button. It is quite easy to click on them, the places are selected with sense, allowing you to use them blindly.

The headphone jack is located on the top end, and the microUSB port is on the bottom, that is, when all the wires are connected, they do not interfere with each other or the user.

Screen

ASUS Nexus 7 32Gb is equipped with a 7-inch screen with a modern IPS-matrix and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels with a density of 323 ppi, which in comparison is close to the level of top-end smartphones. Moreover, in terms of pixel saturation, Nexus 7 outperforms almost all tablets, both small and large.

For example, the same iPad mini from Apple can boast of only 162 points, so the new product from Google offers an image of clearly better quality than the Apple company.

Display Features

Experts and user reviews note a large supply of brightness of the device and an intelligent automatic adjustment system. The touch performance of the ASUS Nexus 7 is also impressive: the screen is pressure-sensitive and comfortable to work with both with gloves and with wet hands. Some Nexus owners complain about too wide bezels around the screen, which is especially noticeable on and when watching a bright and saturated video. But the problem is partially solved if you use the device in landscape orientation.

As a measure to protect the display, engineers have equipped the device with a practical and proven coating that is used in many high-end devices.

According to users, the dimensions of the gadget and the display are not so large, but using it with one hand is not so comfortable, although, compared to the previous line, it has become more convenient to hold the device in your hand - the small width of the case affects.

Communication

ASUS Nexus 7 can work with 3G networks, and there were no problems with our cellular operators in terms of availability or incompatibility. For stationary data transfer, you can use the microUSB port located at the bottom.

As a wireless source of communication, a Wi-Fi 802.11 module is provided at b / g / n points, as an alternative - Bluetooth of the fourth version with reduced power consumption. The last advantage of the tablet was appreciated in the positive reviews of many owners.

Media

It should be said right away that the ASUS Nexus 7 is extremely pleased with the browser, namely its high speed. Any scaling, clicking on links, scrolling and other actions while surfing the web occurs absolutely without delays and any delays.

The same can be said for most of the games that do great on this platform, showing high FPS.

A high-quality screen allows you to watch high-definition video in 1080p without delays and twitching, but despite the good stuffing, the software and codecs built into ASUS Nexus 7 cannot cope with some formats, and user reviews are full of bewilderment and solution options in the face of third-party applications.

The tablet successfully implements a new system of speakers that produce more or less high-quality sound from the top and bottom of the device, thereby obtaining surround sound. The volume of the gadget is decent, and if you wish, you can use it as a small music speaker somewhere on vacation.

Autonomous work

The battery capacity is quite enviable - 3950 mAh. The device works much longer than the models of previous lines and shows good results. At maximum brightness when watching video in HD quality, the device worked for about eight hours.

Indicators with an average load fluctuate within 1-2 days, and if you use the gadget sporadically, then you can last up to a week. In this regard, the tablet is not inferior to its closest competitors, in particular the iPad mini, and thanks to the remote charging function, the owner will receive an opportunity, rare for these times, which many users say very positively.

Summarizing

The new model from two well-known brands turned out to be very successful: the gadget has become more powerful, more compact, performance and other parameters have noticeably improved. Here you can add a second camera, an excellent display. For the price asked in stores, you get an extremely balanced device in its class.

Depending on the amount of memory (16/32 GB) and the availability of network modules, the device can be purchased from $ 150 to $ 200. Generally speaking, the Nexus 7 is one of the best models for the money. The device can be recommended to everyone who is looking for a device balanced in all parameters for both work and entertainment.

Asus Nexus 7 | Design and appearance

The design of the tablet is pleasing. I would especially like to note the back cover: a pleasant to the touch rubberized surface "golf ball". The front of the screen is covered with glass. Above, you can see the peephole of the video camera and the light sensor. Side bezel in portrait orientation in medium size for 7 ″ tablet. But the top and bottom edges are quite large. The situation is complicated by the fact that part of the panel at the top and bottom is occupied, respectively, by the black status bar and on-screen buttons, which make the frame appear larger.

On the other hand, in landscape orientation, the bezels on the right and left are finger-friendly. Although you won't be able to reach all the keys of the on-screen keyboard with your thumbs.

On the back are the Nexus and Asus logos, as well as the speaker grill. On the top there is nothing but a microphone, on the bottom there is a 3.5 mm audio jack and a micro-USB port. On the right side there is a lock button, it is also a shutdown button, and a volume rocker. On the left side there is another microphone and a docking station connector. The docking station itself is not yet on sale, but ASUS promises to release it in the near future.

Asus Nexus 7 | Equipment

The tablet comes in a nice box, on which part of the tablet image forms the number 7. The package includes the tablet itself, a 5 V, 2 A (output) power supply, and a USB cable. That is, you will only get the essentials, but you can hardly expect anything more from a tablet of this price.

Asus Nexus 7 | Software

Google's Nexus products are getting a system update almost simultaneously with its release. The Nexus 7 is no exception. We tested the tablet with version 4.2.1 installed. Android on the Nexus is completely "naked", without additional programs and a special manufacturer interface, as Google sees it.

I would like to note the main advantages of the system of this version.

  • Multiuser interface. Each has its own settings, applications, desktops, etc.
  • Ability to process pictures and photos in the standard Gallery application
  • Added security check for non-Google Play apps

  • Continuous input by drawing lines.
  • Wireless display to TV

  • Ability to resize widgets

  • Changed camera app

  • Finally appeared stopwatch and timer... By the way, beautifully designed, comfortable and functional

  • Time of several cities (in the clock widget too)

Asus Nexus 7 | Camera

The tablet has one camera - front-facing with a resolution of 1.2 MP. It does not have autofocus, so it is only suitable for video conferencing and Skype. The picture is clear. Thanks to two microphones (the second is used for noise cancellation), the sound is also excellent. There is no application for the camera, photos can only be obtained from specialized applications (Skype, for example).

Asus Nexus 7 | NFC

The ASUS Nexus 7 tablet has NFC support. It may be needed in the future, when compatible payment terminals appear, which will allow you to buy goods, travel tickets from an electronic wallet attached to your tablet, receive various discounts, etc.

But now you can use the NFC function. Thanks to Android Beam, you can use NFC to exchange various links between two devices, simply by bringing them to each other. When the NFC zones touch, the information is sent to the recipient, it is worth touching the screen. So, for example, when a page is opened in a browser, a link will be transmitted, and when an application is running, a page with this application on Google Play. The main thing here is convenience. No need to search for a receiver, no pairing, or launch a special menu. The transfer is done in one click.

Asus Nexus 7 | Settings

The settings in Android 4.2 are not much different from previous versions. But there are also innovations. They consist in the settings of new functions, which we have already described above in the section on software.

There are no mobile network settings in the tablet version without 3G. Therefore, it is not possible to connect USB modems via an OTG cable by standard means. Of course, in the forums you can find instructions for adding support for 3G modems, but for this you have to install custom firmware and root, which voids the warranty.

Flash drives will not work properly. The OTG USB port can only connect a keyboard or mouse. When a mouse is connected, a cursor appears on the screen. But the connected drives are not properly initialized. The situation can be corrected by yourself quite easily, using the program from Google Play.

Asus Nexus 7 | Music

The standard Play Music application is used to play music. It's easy to understand and easy to use. Equalizer is also available. The tablet itself has two speakers. The sound is loud. At full volume, the tablet is comfortable to listen to only in noisy places; in silence, half the volume is enough. The sound is good with headphones too. In terms of sound, the tablet is excellent.

Asus Nexus 7 | Games

NVIDIA Tegra 3 is one of the best SoCs on the market today and competes well with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4. NVIDIA tablets have a significant advantage over other platforms - games are optimized for NVIDIA. Google Play has a dedicated app where you can see a list of Tegra-optimized games and get links to download or buy games. Some games can be downloaded to other platforms as well. And some are only supported by the Tegra family.

For example, in Beach Buggy Blits, drops appear on the screen while driving through the water.

Auralux has beautiful shimmer.

The graphics in the games are excellent. Everything is beyond words. As the saying goes, it's better to see once than hear a hundred times.

Nominally, the Asus Nexus 7 did not reproduce almost any of our test files. In any case, for Android, you can install any player you like from Google Play, which we strongly recommend.

In terms of application productivity, the 4-core "system on a chip" Tegra 3 has left far behind the competition. The gaming performance was higher than the inexpensive tablets previously tested in our lab. In addition, Tegra 3 supports some graphical features (dynamic lighting, shadows, reflections, etc.) that are not taken into account by the SmartBench test, but show themselves in optimized games.

JavaScript performance

SunSpider is a JavaScript benchmark that demonstrates both the performance of a tablet's JavaScript engine and the processing power (to a lesser extent) of hardware. Poor JavaScript implementation on a very fast tablet can blur the entire platform's performance. And at the same time, the great JavaScript implementation will make efficient use of even slow systems. However, today the main implementations of JavaScript engines are getting closer to each other, developers are borrowing all the best ideas. JavaScript tests are single threaded due to the nature of browsers. The SunSpider benchmark avoids many of the micro-benchmarks we see in applications like GeekBench, while at the same time the benchmark attempts to evaluate the CPU-sensitive tasks that are found in real web applications.

Below are the results for SunSpider 0.9.1 on Android tablets and phones. Android devices use the Google V8 JavaScript engine.

The smaller the result, the better. Unlike previous versions of Android and other tablets, Google Chrome is the default browser. But Google optimized it well in terms of speed, the browser performance is excellent, the tablet will not "slow down" on large pages.

AnTuTu

We've added the results of the popular AnTuTu benchmark. The Antutu test has been updated, and the results of the old and new versions do not match. We present comparative results with one of the best tablets on the Russian market -.

CPU GPU RAM I / O General
ASUS Nexus 7 ″ An 4.2.1 6316 3674 1874 897 12 761
3944 5015 1851 829 11 639

The results are decent, but in this synthetic test, the Mali 400 MP4 graphics core of the IconBIT NetTAB THOR tablet produces a higher frame rate per second. Thanks to a more powerful 4-core computing processor, the Asus Nexus 7 performs well. Note that with GPU Tegra 3, you will get the unique graphics features available in optimized games. Therefore, the lower "pure" GPU performance is not so important. On the other hand, the Tegra 3 GPU would like better GPU performance results.

Quadrant

CPU Memory I / O 2D 3D General
ASUS Nexus 7 ″ An 4.2.1 11179 2548 1754 235 2391 3621

IconBIT NetTAB THOR 10.1 ″ An 4.1 7517 4452 5886 862 2129 4169

As an alternative, we would like to cite IconBIT netTAB Matrix II, which was recently. With it, you get hardware comparable to the Nexus 7 in power (albeit two computing cores instead of four), also a good IPS screen with a lower resolution, standard support for 3G modems, the ability to expand memory with micro-SD cards (there is a special slot), standard connection external storage. There is also an HDMI output. Finally, the IconBIT netTAB Matrix II tablet costs one and a half times less and lacks many of the disadvantages of the Nexus 7. On the other hand, the Nexus 7 performs much better in games specially optimized for Tegra 3.

But the ASUS Nexus 7 tablet is good not only for playing games on Tegra 3. You will receive ASUS build quality and a warranty with service centers in Russia, constant manufacturer support and quick updates of the operating system - the tablet already comes with Android 4.2.1.

So we leave the choice for our readers. We see IconBIT netTAB Matrix II and ASUS Nexus 7 as close competitors, with advantages and disadvantages for both tablets.

Benefits of the Asus Nexus 7

  • ASUS quality, good case, a network of service centers in Russia
  • Compact size 7 ″ tablet
  • Powerful "system on a chip" NVIDIA Tegra 3 T30L
  • Latest version of Android OS 4.2.1, updates simultaneously with the publication of the new version
  • High-resolution IPS display 1280 x 800 (216 ppi)
  • Accelerometer, GPS, magnetometer, gyroscope, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC
  • Loud speakers

Disadvantages of Asus Nexus 7

  • Lack of HDMI connector with powerful hardware
  • The docking station is not currently available, although there is a connector
  • Normally poor support for video formats, you must install the player from Google Play
  • Wide bezel at the top and bottom of the screen
  • No micro-SD card slot
  • Lack of support for external drives via USB - OTG
  • Lack of support for 3G modems (for the 16 GB version)

A line of mobile devices called Nexus began its history in 2010. The well-known company Google became its founder. She also decides under what brand the devices will be sold. Buyers can already get acquainted with gadgets of the brands Samsung, HTC, Asus, LG. Undoubtedly, these devices have many advantages. First of all, this is support for updates from Google (and users are among the first to receive them) and the original operating system "Android" without any shells and other "stuff".

Since 2010, several Nexus smartphones have been released. And since 2012, tablets have also been on sale. The expensive version, equipped with a 10ʺ display, was released by the Korean company Samsung. There is a more modest device. It is presented under the equally famous Asus brand. The tablet was sold at an affordable price - about 10,000 rubles. Was not equipped with the highest performance. But this did not affect his popularity. Asus Google Nexus 7, after the start of sales in the domestic market, immediately fell in love with buyers. What exactly did he deserve increased attention, let's figure it out together.

Positioning

When developing mobile devices, manufacturers are guided by certain rules. In order for a new gadget to quickly become a sales leader, it is necessary to optimally balance the price-quality ratio. If you study in detail the market of mobile digital devices, then there are not so many such solutions. Most of the cheap machines are made in China. They are distinguished by a low price, however, regarding the characteristics, the developers focus on only one thing. It is such an element that distinguishes a certain gadget from a number of similar devices, for example, a powerful battery, a large-resolution screen, a productive chipset. At the same time, other characteristics remain at the level of the budget segment.

But by purchasing an Asus Nexus 7 tablet, the buyer is guaranteed to receive a functional device at a reasonable cost. In its price category, it has practically no competitors. The manufacturer claims that all devices of the Nexus line are of high quality, decent performance and a large assortment of pre-installed software.

The first generation of the tablet of this model was released back in 2012. A year later, an updated version appeared on the market. According to reviews, it scored excellent in terms of build quality, software and processing speed. Given the low cost, the target audience turned out to be quite diverse. The age range is from 7 to 50 years. A significant advantage, according to buyers, is the 7-inch screen. Thanks to him, the tablet turned out to be quite compact. Its dimensions (20 × 11.4 × 0.86 cm) allow carrying the device both in a small purse and in a pocket.

After the release of the Asus Nexus 7 (LTE and Wi-Fi), sales of the Apple iPad mini dropped sharply. And this did not surprise the experts at all, since the partnership between the two world giants Google and Asus produces excellent results. Not only American Apple had to get nervous, but also other eminent brands.

Design

With a detailed review of the external design of the tablet, you can immediately notice that the developers have chosen not the most expensive materials. However, the quality of the plastic did not affect the aesthetics. The second generation of Asus Nexus 7 has lost the rear panel perforation. It is difficult to judge whether this is an advantage or a disadvantage. Outwardly, both options look good, but in the 2013 modification, the cover began to "collect" fingerprints. Therefore, the updated version is somewhat inferior to its predecessor in terms of markings. As for the ease of use, the tablet does not slip in the hands, so the risk of dropping it accidentally is minimized.

Most of the owners immediately noticed the dimensions of the gadget. It looks pretty neat. In their reviews, they call the tablet light, thin and compact. The designers managed to significantly reduce the side edges, making the Asus Nexus 7 easy to grip with one medium-sized hand.

The front panel is occupied by a large screen. It is framed by a black frame that widens noticeably at the top and bottom ends. The back cover contains the names of the line (in the center) and the manufacturer's brand (on the left). The speakers are also symmetrically located at the edges of the panel. For ease of use, all control keys are located on the upper end. Connection to a PC is carried out using a USB cable. The corresponding port is located on the right side edge. On the opposite side, there is an audio jack with a 3.5 mm plug.

Display Features

The developers in the Asus Nexus 7 set up a pretty decent display. They used a common type of matrix - IPS. This technology is already familiar to a large number of users. It provides a high level of color, wide viewing angles. When the phone is tilted, there is no inversion of shades.

Screen resolution - 1920 × 1200 px. Taking into account that the diagonal is 7ʺ, the number of pixels per inch is quite large - 323 ppi. By studying user reviews, you can draw certain conclusions. The tablet is ideal for watching movies, photos. The image quality is excellent. There is no graininess at all. A glass plate was used to protect the screen. It has a smooth surface with a mirror finish. The manufacturer worried about the anti-glare filter when creating the Asus Nexus 7. The touchscreen works clearly, quickly and accurately responds to touch. There is no air gap between the matrix and the protective glass. This is what completely eliminates the duplication of displayed objects. It also has an oleophobic coating. Thanks to it, the number of left fingerprints is significantly reduced. This is especially noticeable when compared with plain glass.

The Asus Nexus 7 32 Gb display is equipped with a large margin of brightness. This ensures a good display of the picture in any ambient light. For example, when you are outdoors in sunny weather, you can increase the brightness to the limit. The digital figure will be approximately 560 cd / m². And for those who do not like a very bright image, it is recommended to set the minimum value - 10 cd / m². The developers have provided two types of settings: manual and automatic. For the functioning of the second method, there are special light sensors, and to change the brightness level by the user, it is enough just to enter the menu.

Asus Nexus 7: camera specifications

In order not to overstate the price of the tablet, manufacturers do not use high-definition cameras. According to the majority of users, this criterion is not significant enough, since basically everyone has a phone. According to statistics, a lot of smartphones with top-end optics have been released recently, and you can pick up not only expensive options, but also "state employees".

The first generation of Asus Nexus 7 only had a front-facing camera. However, at present, such equipment is no longer considered relevant for a long time, therefore, with the release of the 2013 modification, this flaw was corrected. But can this be attributed to the benefits? In this tablet, the manufacturer installed a previous generation camera. Its maximum is 5 megapixels. An interface without any special features. As for the front camera (1.2 megapixels), it is useful only for video calls. For pictures, its resolution will not be enough.

Autonomy

When choosing an Asus Nexus 7 tablet, battery characteristics play an important role. Most users consider Apple devices to be the standard. They are able to function when watching films for up to 10 hours. Surprisingly, most manufacturers dream of getting closer to this value, but so far they cannot achieve such results. But the Asus developers practically succeeded. The 7-inch tablet is equipped with a battery that has a capacity of 3950 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the device will work from 8 (video quality - 720p) to 10 hours (other modes) during video playback.

If it is possible to reduce the brightness level to 20%, then the device will be discharged not earlier than after 12 hours. In normal life, the tablet will last for about 2-3 days (depending on the load level). According to users, a significant drawback is the time spent on charging the battery. In order to reach 100%, it will take about 3 hours. Most owners try to charge the tablet only overnight, since the battery itself is not afraid of overcharging.

Performance

The Asus Nexus 7 tablet, depending on the equipment, runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 8064 (Wi-Fi) and MDM9215M (LTE) processors. The role of the graphics accelerator is played by a rather strong video card - GPU Adreno 320. Of course, this device will be significantly inferior to those gadgets that operate on NVIDIA Tegra 4. But will the user suffer greatly from this? According to experts, Nexus 7 can easily cope with the tasks assigned - be it applications or games. If we test the version with Wi-Fi, then we can see that the chipset is based on four compute modules. They work on the 2 + 2 principle. Each of the cores with increasing load can accelerate to 1512 MHz. And with a decrease in work processes, the frequency decreases to 384 MHz.

In order to be convinced of the tablet's performance, just look at the amount of RAM. It is this indicator that will determine how quickly processes and tasks are processed on the device. Asus developers preferred to limit themselves to two gigabytes. Such characteristics cannot be classified as top-end, but they cannot be called a weak side either. Built-in memory is provided to enhance the capabilities of the tablet. There are two modifications on sale: 16 and 32 GB. There is no expansion method since the manufacturer did not use a memory card slot.

Communications

The manufacturer presented the model range as wide as possible. It has Asus Nexus 7 32Gb LTE models with support for third and fourth generation networks, and there is also a simple version that works only with Wi-Fi. According to users, the tablet works well with mobile operators. During the operation, no incompatibility was found, the signal catches well. Those who do not like to work with the Internet via a cellular network are invited to use the Wi-Fi module. For data transfer, you can use both wired (USB) and wireless (Bluetooth). It is worth noting that most of the laudatory reviews are devoted specifically to the work of the Bluetooth module.

Multimedia capabilities

Most owners immediately noticed the browser in the Asus Nexus 7. Its speed is quite high. Any action can be taken on the web. The tablet behaves perfectly while surfing, following links, zooming. No delays or freezes were noticed by users. Buyers can count on the tablet to handle modern games with ease. The screen perfectly displays any video in HD quality. If you have problems with the operation of some files, you can download an application that will help you fix the problem.

Many have noticed that the sound of a mobile device is quite loud. This is made possible by a special speaker placement. They are located on two opposite sides. If a situation arises where it is necessary to significantly increase the playback volume, then the tablet can be connected to acoustic devices.

Scope of delivery and packaging

The Asus Nexus 7 3G is shipped to store shelves in a pretty presentable box. According to buyers, its design is great even for a holiday gift. Externally, the packaging has a glossy finish, which significantly increases its attractiveness. For its decoration, pleasant light colors have been chosen. The bezels are based on a blue background. The logos of the manufacturing companies are printed on it in white letters: Asus and Google. Inside the package is the tablet itself. As for the accessories, their set is truly modest. The kit includes only the most necessary items. We are talking about a charger, a key to open the SIM card tray, a USB cable and, of course, documentation.

Conclusion

So, you can already finish the review of the Asus Nexus 7 3G (32Gb / 16Gb) tablet. Reviews of the owners will help to summarize. It is thanks to them that you can give a real assessment to the joint product of Google and Asus. This tablet model easily copes with all everyday tasks. The gadget works with applications that do not need a lot of "RAM". The build quality on the Web is only laudatory reviews. All users claim that the manufacturer took a responsible approach to the work, although he used inexpensive materials. There is no backlash during tablet operation. All parts fit perfectly, gaps are minimal. In short, the quality is at a high level!

Of course, one cannot remain silent about the screen. The image is reproduced on the display in a realistic palette. The clarity and sharpness of the picture is excellent. The touchscreen truly deserves respect, as it responds to any touch. Thanks to it, you can use the tablet even with gloves. Users safely attribute performance to benefits. The quad-core processor is very fast and can handle a lot of tasks. When working with this device, owners may encounter not only advantages, but also find disadvantages. Most often, problems arise during a firmware change (system update).

And yet, despite this, the Nexus 7 has not lost its relevance over the past 5 months, and with the release of Android 4.2 and 3G versions it has only become more in demand. The positioning of the device is simple - we have a “Pure Google” tablet with a seven-inch screen. Its main goal is to pressure manufacturers with price, as well as an attempt to show how to release a budget tablet with non-budget characteristics.

At first glance, we covered the appearance of the device and the arrangement of elements in sufficient detail, so these sections were taken by me from that article.

Equipment:

  • The tablet
  • Buildable charger + USB cable
  • Documentation

Appearance, materials, assembly

The Nexus 7 has a nice and calm appearance. There are no design elements that stand out, but at the same time there are no irritants. In general, it looks like most 7-inch tablets, especially on the front side.

The back is made of soft-touch matte plastic. The use of such material has a positive effect on the tactile sensations and appearance. The tablet is pleasant to hold in your hands, and there are practically no prints or scratches on the back.

There are no complaints about the assembly, all the parts are tightly fitted to each other, nothing creaks, no backlash or wobbling.

Control elements

On the right side there is a power button and a volume rocker. The decision to place them on one side is not the best one, since in order to take a screenshot, you need to rotate the tablet horizontally (remember, the combination for taking a screenshot, starting from Android 4.0 - simultaneously pressing on + volume down). Taking a screenshot in a vertical position is very problematic.

At the bottom you can see microUSB and 3.5 mm headphone jacks.

The speaker is located on the bottom of the back, and the front camera is traditionally located above the screen.

Also on the left side there are contacts for the docking station (as far as I understood it was for her).

Overall dimensions

The Nexus 7 has standard dimensions for a 7-inch tablet. Feels like its dimensions are close to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, however, the numbers speak for themselves.

  • Nexus 7 - 198.5 x 120 x 10.45 mm, weight 340 grams
  • Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 - 194 x 122 x 11 mm, weight 344 grams

It is convenient to hold the tablet with one or two hands, you can only find fault with the thickness, of course, I would like it to be at the level of the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Display

The Nexus 7 uses a 7-inch IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass. Supports multitouch up to ten simultaneous touches. Despite the fact that IPS-matrices have already begun to appear in budget devices (for example, in the IconBIT Matrix), most of them have a lower resolution (1024x600 pixels or 1024x768 pixels), although there are exceptions, for example, Ainol Fire.

At first glance, I wrote that the screen picture was of low quality. But apparently we were then shown an engineering sample. The Nexus 7 we are testing now has no complaints about the screen: natural colors, high brightness, large viewing angles. There are also no complaints about clarity. The minimum brightness is comfortable for reading in the dark, the maximum is excessive in most cases. After budget tablets, the screen in the Nexus 7 is very pleasing to the eye.

Performance

This is the first 7-inch NVIDIA Tegra 3 tablet, which gives it many advantages at once. I propose to take a short walk through the already known advantages of Tegra 3:

  • Tegra Zone with several exclusive games.
  • PRISM technology - at low brightness, individual pixels are illuminated brighter, due to which the overall brightness is visually higher and the power consumption is lower.
  • Support for various peripherals (although the USB Host function is not available in the Nexus 7, but there are always bluetooth devices)
  • The fifth energy-efficient core that works for undemanding tasks.

I am very impressed with the use of Tegra 3 in this tablet, primarily because of the games. At the moment, only a few exclusive games have been released for it, but their number is gradually increasing. If we consider a game tablet on Android, then it is worth looking towards the Tegra models. If we talk about control, then, in my opinion, it is more comfortable to play with a ten-inch tablet. On the other hand, even if you play from the tablet for a long time, your hands still do not get tired.

With a heavy load on the processor (games), its right bottom part heats up (or the left one if you hold it horizontally)

The processor itself operates at a frequency of up to 1.3 GHz, the amount of RAM is 1 GB, the amount of internal memory is 16 GB or 32 GB (versions with 8 GB are not sold in Russia). There is no memory card slot. It is precisely the impossibility of expanding memory that is one of the main drawbacks of the tablet, it is not clear what prevented this slot from being installed in it, although with the release of the version with 32GB of memory, this drawback became less noticeable.

Thanks to Android 4.1, the tablet interface is fast and fluid. And you get used to it very quickly. This applies to the browser and desktops, and everything else. By the way, there is no standard browser in the Nexus 7, they decided to abandon it in favor of Google Chrome.

operating system

The Nexus 7 originally ran on Android 4.1, but has since had a few significant updates since then. One of the updates added support for landscape mode, and the other brought fresh Android 4.2.

Status bar... Now swiping on the left side opens notifications, and on the right - toggles. Clicking on the switch takes you to its settings.

Let me remind you that the Nexus7 uses a "phone" interface, due to which some applications (for example imo beta) open their phone, rather than tablet versions.

During the use of the device, it received about three updates. It's incredibly nice to see it on your tablet a couple of days after discussing the new OS version. Timely updates are a huge plus for the Nexus 7. It feels like the device is supported rather than being left to its own devices. At the moment, no manufacturer can compete with devices from Google in the speed and duration of updates.

Autonomous work

The tablet has a 4325 mAh battery. First, let me have some subjective indicators. Using the Nexus 7 for about an hour and a half a day at medium brightness, it runs out of power in a week.

If we talk about objective estimates, then when reading at a brightness of 10% with Wi-Fi turned off, the battery is discharged in 8 hours and 48 minutes.

Viewing HD video at maximum brightness discharged the tablet in 6 hours.

When it comes to gaming, the Nexus 7 lasted about 4 hours.

Despite the fact that the figures are quite average, I got the impression that the tablet lasts quite a long time on a single charge. Maybe this is because in sleep mode it consumes almost no energy.

Front-camera

The Nexus 7 decided to abandon the rear camera and left only the front camera. The decision is absolutely correct and I fully approve of it. The camera supports Skype video calls, however, the video quality is mediocre.

Wireless Modules

Wi-Fi (b / g / n) - there are no complaints about the work of the module. Supports Wi-Fi Direct technology.

GPS - Google Maps is used as navigation software. A cold start takes 12 seconds.

Bluetooth 3.0 - all popular profiles are supported, including A2DP.

3G (optional) - I had a Wi-Fi version on the test, so I can't say anything about the work of the 3G module.

USB-Host

The tablet does not support USB sticks via OTG cable by default, but you can take advantage of this feature using third-party software, such as the Nexus Media Importer. Also, you can easily connect a keyboard to it. The latest versions of Android have a dedicated settings menu for working with it.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the Nexus 7 is the best 7-inch Android tablet so far. It has everything that a user might need: an up-to-date OS version, powerful hardware, a good screen and a good battery life. I've happily used the Nexus 7 as my primary tablet for about a month now, and with a clear conscience I can recommend it to anyone looking for a compact and affordable Android tablet.

Some users talk about a marriage in these tablets, for example, there are cases of screen peeling off. One of our readers encountered such a problem, but they changed the device in the store without any problems (just do not come to the store on a weekend). I had another "bug" - after a complete shutdown, I could not turn on a fully charged tablet. But the solution was suggested on the forum: you need to hold the power button for 20 (!) Seconds. Oddly enough, it helped, but what is the reason for this behavior of the tablet is not clear.

At the moment, there are two versions of the Nexus 7 on sale (talking about PCT devices) - 16 GB and 32 GB 3G. The first one costs 10 thousand rubles, and the second one costs 14 thousand. In my opinion, the 3G version is the most relevant. In it, you feel more comfortable in terms of memory, and always have mobile Internet at hand, which is very important, since the Nexus 7 is perfect as a portable device.

Competitors

The model has two serious competitors (or rather, three, but the third has not come out yet).

Evgeny Vildyaev (

Greetings to all visitors and participants of the CSN experts club! Today this article will be devoted to a forgotten gadget for many, namely the first generation ASUS NEXUS 7 tablet.

I was very surprised when I found this device from my relatives, since usually they consult with me before buying any equipment, in this case this was not the case and they relied on the advice of a CSN store consultant when purchasing a tablet. This gadget was a present for my niece for her birthday. I managed to persuade her to lend the tablet for my use for testing.

PACKAGING AND COMPLETE SET

The packaging of this tablet is quite stylish. In fact, the packaging of the tablet is a pull-out tray, a kind of "box". The main part is a gray glossy cardboard. The front side shows a portion of the tablet with vibrant colors. On the back of the package is a listing of information that the tablet closely interacts with Google.

On the right and left sides there is a minimum of information that tells about the brand and model of the tablet, as well as the amount of built-in memory.

Pulling out the tray reveals that the tablet is housed in a matte black cardboard box. There is a minimal set of components under the tablet in one more division of the box. First of all, these are:

Charger;

USB cable;

Clip for SIM card slot;

Quick start guide;

Warranty card.

DESIGN

The first generation ASUS NEXUS 7 tablet has an interesting design. Specifically, I was hooked by the texture design of the back cover of the device - it's a lot of dots all over the back of the gadget. This approach imparts a pleasant tactile sensation. This cover is made of black plastic, has the inscription NEXUS slightly higher in the center, a speaker is located in the lower part in the center, and above it there is a small inscription ASUS.

On the back of the device is a 7-inch IPS screen. This screen is surrounded by a small plastic frame of gray color, the edges of the device are slightly rounded. At the top of the screen, namely in the center, there is a front-facing camera of the device with a resolution of only 1.3 megapixels.

The device weighs 347 grams. And thanks to the small size of the tablet 120x198.5x10.45mm, it is quite convenient to hold it even with this hand for a long time.

On the right side of the device there are three keys: a volume rocker, an on / off key for the device. A microphone is located near the power button.

There are no connectors and buttons on the top edge.

On the left side is the only SIM card slot. To open it, you need a special paper clip supplied. The type of SIM cards supported for this tablet is nano-SIM.

On the bottom there is a mini USB connector and a 3.5mm audio jack.

In general, the design of the device, as I wrote above, turned out to be quite stylish and ergonomic. The build quality of ASUS products remains high as always and this tablet is no exception! There are no backlashes, creaks or other distortions in the tablet assembly.

SCREEN

The tablet screen has a 7 '' diagonal with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. The pixel density is 213 dpi. The screen is completely under the protective glass. The anti-glare properties are very good, you can confidently use the tablet in the sun with minimal color loss.

The viewing angles of the screen are also decent, the picture does not lose color, and the distortion in colors at a large angle is insignificant.

The only drawback of this screen is that the coating on it is not of the best quality and fingerprints are constantly left on the screen.

The tablet has a standard multi-touch, supports 10 touches.

SOUND

Although the first generation ASUS NEXUS 7 does not have stereo speakers like its new brother, the sound is very good. The tablet is not inferior in sound quality and volume level to my ASUS K53SJ laptop.

TESTING

Software

The tablet is equipped with the new Android 4.4.4 operating system.

The desktop interface is pretty commonplace. There are enough preinstalled programs for the initial use of the tablet. Here is a browser, an email client, a program for viewing and editing documents, a program for listening to music, as well as a map and famous services from Google. The only thing that upset was the lack of a file manager and a program for watching videos, but this is quickly cured by installing the software you need from Google Play.

The main menu is equipped with 4x6 labels.

As for the wallpaper, I did not like the set of standard images for this tablet at all, but here, as they say for an amateur, in the end, nothing prevents you from downloading and installing any picture you like as wallpaper.

The touch menu with quick settings is located in the upper right corner of the desktop. To open it, just slide your finger from top to bottom once.

There are 32 preinstalled widgets for this tablet, in order to install this or that widget, you need to hold it and then place it on the desktop.

A series of screenshots with the appearance of standard working programs:

The keyboard layout is standard and easy to use. The browser works smartly, without any problems.

Performance

The first-generation ASUS NEXUS 7 tablet has a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor with a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz.

NVIDIA GeForce ULP is used as a graphics video accelerator. The amount of built-in memory is 32GB, but only 27.5GB will be available for use. There is no support for memory cards in this tablet. There is only 1GB of RAM, but only 490MB is left after loading.

Synthetic tests

Antutu Benchmark showed mixed results, giving a head start to the Lenovo K900 smartphone.

In the famous tester 3DMARKthe tablet passed the test with confidence, thus showing fairly predictable results.

NenaMARK 2 in testing it showed a good result at 54.7FPS.

ANTUTU 3D RATING BENCHMARK rated the tablet's performance when tested at 2994 points.

Vellamo:

Stability test:

Sensor box

Game tests.

All games were easily installed on the tablet when testing the gaming performance of the tablet.

Asphalt 8: Take off!

The game behaves well at medium graphics settings, with high image quality, FPS sags and we have unfavorable lags and slowdowns.

Real Racing 3.

It is quite possible to play this game without any freezes. True, sometimes small delays are possible, but this happens very rarely.

Iron Man 3.

The game runs very well on this tablet.

Dead Trigger 2.

This game behaves well at all graphics resolution settings.

GPS and Wi-Fi test.

When testing the GPS signal, the tablet found 8 satellites in less than one minute, but it did a poor job with the location accuracy, the error varies up to 8-10 meters.

Wi-Fi works just as well, this tablet caught all the waffles in my entrance \u003d)

AUTONOMY

This tablet has a good battery with a capacity of 4325 mAh. With such small dimensions of the device, it seems to me that I don't need more.

When using the tablet in everyday mode, it lasts for exactly two days.

With constant video game play, the tablet lasts for 4-5 hours.

When watching movies, 100% screen brightness and maximum volume through the speaker, the tablet worked for 6 hours.

When listening to music on headphones, the tablet lasts for 12 hours.

The decisive value in the autonomous operation of the tablet is the brightness of the display, the operating time of the tablet will depend on how much you set the value.

RESULTS

This tablet is already very outdated, but nevertheless it can still be seen on the shelves of computer stores. One way or another, I wanted to show the results of testing this gadget. After all, before buying, you need to think or consult 100 times, but if you still decide to purchase ASUS NEXUS 7, then purchase a second generation tablet. Yes, it will be a little more expensive, about 4 thousand, but you will receive an updated gadget, and even with an additional camera, which is not in the first generation tablet.

Well, if you are not a fan of ASUS technology and you do not care which brand of equipment to buy, then today there are other competing models on the market with similar characteristics.

For instance:

- Acer Iconia Tab 7 HD A1-713 16Gb 3G; - Huawei MediaPad X1 16Gb 3G; - Lenovo IdeaTab А7-50 16Gb 3G; - LG G Pad E7 8Gb; - Prestigio MultiPad Color 7.0 3G 16Gb 3G; - Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 8Gb 3G.

Many of the given examples of competitors have far from the same amount of internal memory as the first generation ASUS NEXUS 7, but nevertheless the models are equipped with a memory card slot.
