Did the water and mud come?

All hard drives have a pressure equalization port. To prevent dust from entering the disc, this hole is internally fitted with a carbon membrane filter. If the water is protected through this filter, it is relatively clean. The problem is about half of the cases, when the filter will not resist external water pressure and will fall out. The dirt will then fall into the skirting board, which complicates the situation.

How about water, but how do you know you have malware on the drive? ... Do not turn off, disassemble, disassemble. The rotational speed on older hard drives was low, so that previously there was no such problem as hard drives overheating. However, more recently released hard drives, which run at 7200-10,000 rpm, get hot during their operation, as a result of which the temperature inside the drive reaches 70 C and above. Sure, this problem was taken into account by the developers, so today hard drives have an internal temperature sensor, computers have fans and other devices to prevent heating. In addition, some utilities show the temperature of your hard drive.

In the case of a light laptop, quickly turn it off with a button, unplug the power, remove the battery, and unplug anything that gets disconnected. Unpack your device to the max and place it on a dry towel. Try not to put water in the display or other internal parts unnecessarily.

Get to know her! ... Let the device dry for a few days. “Don't try to speed up drying with a hairdryer or wash sugary drinks with water,” says Aleš Wagner, data rescue specialist. Hard disk drives are a place where data is stored. They are made of lightweight aluminum or optical glass and ceramic and are magnetically coated. When the disk heats up, the hard magnetic disks expand, change their size and geometry. These changes lead to the destruction of the magnetic layer on the surface where the data is stored and create defects. Physical damage to the surface results in "bad" or numbered sectors.

What to do in this case? ... The most important thing is to find out exactly if the water has got inside. Nevertheless, the device can work, but it only works as long as the heads of the readers do not come into contact with the first dirt. If you know that a lot of liquid has gotten on a disk or laptop, don't expect anything and take the device to a workshop. Unfortunately, time is playing against us.

It is this aspect that distinguishes hard drives from:
- floppy disks;
- video tape recorders;
- cassettes.

The disk heads work on the surface of the disk without physically touching the magnetic hard disks. When the air inside heats up, the distance between the hard disks and the heads decreases, which increases the possibility of head breakage.

First you need to unscrew the top cover of the disc. Therefore, we turn all the screws visible to the naked eye in turn. You have to pull it out and cut a piece of film so that it can unscrew it. After removing all screws, remove the top cover. Most likely it will be necessary to subvert it because it can be strongly detached from the print. You can securely insert a piece of screwdriver between the two body parts and lift the cover on each side.

After removing the cover, we will see all the internals of the drive - a head attached between two magnets and a hard drive. We need to remove everything except the plate. Just unscrew a few screws and remove the cotter pin that holds the printhead. Leave the head and magnets.

Head drive.

A head actuator is a device attached to the heads and is responsible for moving them around magnetic hard drives. All modern hard drives use a voice coil drive that controls the position of the head. Overheating causes damage to any part of the disc, so the drive is no exception. Thus, the failure of the drive head directly affects the performance of the hard drive.

After the disc was removed, we had virtually one single plate mounted on the engine. Only the stem remained, on which the head was attached. Just unscrew all the screws in the middle. With the tablet in hand, we put it on the sandpaper and draw its shape.

Controller.

What is the optimal temperature for the hard drive to work and extend its lifespan (and your data!), And how to keep that temperature?

The most commonly used 7200 rpm hard drives run hotter than 5400 rpm hard drives. The ideal temperature for a hard drive is 40 C. An acceptable temperature is 50 C. If the hard drive continues to operate at 60 C, you may have problems, and at 70 C, you will definitely have problems.

In older cars, brake drums rather than brake discs were installed at both the rear and rear. Following the brake disc theme, some sports cars have carved and hollow brake discs. These brake discs are larger in diameter, are scratched and rolled to cool faster due to their high braking force, and they heat up quickly and strongly.

Brake discs are involved in braking friction, so naturally they need to be replaced from time to time, like brake pads. Brake discs usually have a minimum dimensional fineness on them, i.e. brake discs should not be thinner than indicated, if any, they must be replaced. Thus, the hard drive cannot tolerate extreme heat.

The hard drive, also known by the English abbreviation HDD, is a node without which no computer can start. What problems are there with a hard drive? Most frequent problem - spontaneous overheating hard disk... This is what we'll talk about today.

Practice at least shows us that most brake drives need to be changed before they fail, why is that? The answer is simple - brake discs are worn out or damaged due to an unregistered brake system. If the brakes are inadequate, the brake discs are subject to extreme changes in temperature and friction distribution. It seems that all these cases will try to show below. Below you can see an image of how it looks like the brake disc surface, when the braking system is not very well lit, stopped only partially, the carriage moves very hard, it rarely stops, and only a certain part of the brake disc surface stops, since such discs must be replaced or run from the surface.

Why is the hard drive heating up? There are several reasons and they are all quite probable.

1) Old age. The life of a hard disk is on average 5-6 years. That is, after this period of time, the HDD starts to work unstable.

2) Oxidation of contact surfaces in the hard disk. Few of the "dummies" know that the bottom of the hard drive is vulnerable because it is not covered by a casing. Thus, the contact surface of some parts also remains "under the open sky". Given the humidity factor in apartments, it is not uncommon for the hard disk board to oxidize strongly. As a result, the hard drive starts to get very hot.

The solution to the oxidation problem is very simple: the oxides must be removed. This is very easy to do. After turning off the computer, we remove the hard drive. We turn it over and see that there are fasteners on its lower side.


Attention: fasteners are not always standard. Therefore, you have to think about how to unscrew, for example, a hex bolt. Although special keys are sold for this purpose.

Having unscrewed the fasteners and removed the board, you will see the contact surface, which is covered with a strange whitish coating: these are the oxides.


Get an eraser, toothpick, and rubbing alcohol (or cologne, lotion, perfume). Remove oxides by cleaning hard particles with a toothpick, wipe with an eraser and rinse with alcohol (soak a cotton swab in alcohol and wipe the cleaned contact surface). Put everything back together and check the work: the hard drive should not warm up.

3) If the connector from the power supply to the hard drive dangles dumbly when connected to the hard drive (weak connection), then the contact will be very poor. The current will constantly jump along the contact track of the plug, bringing instability and overheating of the HDD.


The solution to the problem is quite simple: you just need to slightly bend the contacts in the plug (use a needle).

As for viruses, this is all complete nonsense: viruses cannot heat up the hard drive in any way! Viruses block them, steal information, but do not "fry"!

In general, so - for the future, keep in mind that if your HDD is warming up, then it is advisable to transfer all your valuable files to a flash drive: this is calmer.
