History of the region as a resort education
Baku is the largest city on the coast of the Caspian Sea. Mentions about this reservoir, which is the largest lake in the world, are found in the annals of Ptolemy and Herodotus. The healing properties of the Caspian Sea, the wonderful seaside climate, and the abundance of fruits have made the Caspian region an attractive place for rest and treatment for a long time.
In the late IX-early XX centuries. climatic features of the Caspian coast near Baku attracted the attention of specialists involved in the treatment of consumption (tuberculosis). So, in 1911, Professor Guindes founded a bone-tuberculosis sanatorium for children from working families in the village of Buzovny near Baku - a health resort that is still operating to this day.
In addition, those wishing to improve their health were attracted here by healing springs and mud. Thus, in the legends of the Azerbaijani people, there are references to the wonderful properties of the Surakhani spring. In 1865, doctors became interested in the healing properties of the "hot spring" near the village of Surakhany. Full-fledged studies, which determined the possibility of using the thermal sulfate waters of the Surakhany spring in the treatment of various diseases, were carried out already at the end of the 20s of the twentieth century.
The prosperity of the Absheron Peninsula as a full-fledged resort area began in the Soviet period. In 1936, the Research Institute of Resortology and Physiotherapy was opened in Baku, on the basis of which studies of the resort factors of the region began to be carried out and recommendations for the treatment of various diseases were developed. They also searched for new sources. So, in 1940, during the development of oil fields near the village of Khanlar (10 km. From Baku), a new thermal source of sulphide waters was discovered. In 2007, the government of Azerbaijan approved the state program "Resorts of Azerbaijan", which implies, among other things, the further development of the resorts of the Absheron Peninsula. Also, in many health resorts of the resort region of Baku, brine and curative mud of Masazir Lake, located 20 km away, are used. north-west of the capital of Azerbaijan.
