Hotkeys are a combination of two or three keys on your keyboard that allows you to quickly perform a specific action. It does not use a mouse and does not need to invoke a menu.
There are many lists of hotkeys: for Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac, for Photoshop, for Word, AutoCAD, etc. But not all computer users use them.
Why do we need hotkeys, if any? Anything can happen: the mouse can break, and the wireless mouse can run out of battery.
Sometimes there are problems with the software when connecting a new mouse, and the old one has already "ordered a long life." Yes, and the touchpad can fail, and some simply do not know how to handle it properly, accustomed to clicking the mouse.
When you need to do something urgently, and the mouse is useless, knowledge of keyboard shortcuts can be very useful. In addition, using them, you can significantly increase productivity when working on a computer.
Here are ten of the most used combinations that you can also use with success:
1 ... Many people probably know these combinations. Hotkeys Copy:
Ctrl + C or
They are needed to copy the selected text fragment as follows:
- First, select the text (or picture, table).
- Then press the Ctrl key and, without releasing it, simultaneously press the key with the letter C (for short it is written like this: Ctrl + C).
- We release the keys, now the selected fragment is copied to the clipboard (into the computer's RAM).
Outwardly, the Copy procedure does not appear on the computer screen. To "get" from the computer memory what we put there using the Copy hotkeys:
- you need to put the cursor in the place where you want to place the copied fragment, and
- press the hotkeys Paste: Ctrl + V.
Which keyboard shortcut can be used to copy text or objects to the clipboard?
To do this, there are hotkeys Copy: Ctrl + C and Paste: Ctrl + V. They can be called a sweet couple. They are most often used in one bundle, that is, first, using Ctrl + C, copy the selected fragment, then immediately paste it using the Ctrl + V keys.
Another sweet couple can be used to Copy & Paste - Ctrl + Insert and Shift + Insert. Here, as they say, it is a matter of taste.
2. Ctrl + V or Shift + Insert - hotkeys Paste text or object copied to the clipboard.
3. Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Y- Hotkeys Cancel.
Using these commands, you can undo any changes, for example, if you accidentally cut or deleted text.
To undo several recent changes, you need to press one of these combinations (Ctrl + Z, or Ctrl + Y) several times.
Ctrl + X -hotkeys To cut
This combination allows you to cut what you need, and at the same time throw the cut into the clipboard. Then you can paste the cut into the desired place.
4. Ctrl + F - Hotkeys Search.
A very useful "couple" of keys, opens the search bar in almost any program or browser.
Sometimes Ctrl + F is also called the Find hotkey.
5. Alt + Tab - Hotkeys switching windows.
Convenient for quickly switching between windows of open programs. If this is new to you, just give it a try. There is a chance that you will prefer this method to your usual mouse.
If you add Shift to these combinations (you get Shift + Alt + Tab), you will move in the opposite direction, that is, you can return to the program in which you were in the previous step.
Ctrl + Tab - hot keys for switching tabs. With their help, you can quickly move between tabs in
6. Ctrl + Backspace - Hotkeys Delete... They will save you a lot of time if you need to quickly delete a word while typing. In Notepad, these keyboard shortcuts do not work, but in Word they work fine.
We type a word, place the cursor right after the word and then, if the word needs to be deleted, just press Ctrl + Backspace. The Word will delete the whole word to the left of the cursor.
7. Ctrl + S - Hotkeys Save... They are used to quickly save a file in many programs. Use it when you are working on something important, such as when your laptop battery runs out.
8. Crtl + Home or Crtl + End moves the cursor to the begining or end of document respectively.
Page navigation keys Page Up (up) and Page Down (down) can replace the scroll bar.
9. Crtl + P - Hotkeys Printing.
Used to open a preview window of the current page in a browser or to call a window for printing a document in text editors.
Hotkeys
You can't do without a keyboard, with it we type text, but not only, with the help of the keyboard you can control the computer. It so happens that the mouse does not work, then the keyboard will come to the rescue.
When you work with documents, you will probably navigate through them using the "arrows" of the keyboard or buttons PageUp (scroll the page up) and PageDown (page down).
- It is more convenient to use the key to delete files. Del.
- Menu, in which all the programs installed on the computer live, is easier to call using a special button with the Windows logo (four colored flag).
However, it is possible that this is a matter of taste ... But there are cases when using the keyboard is much easier. For example, it is more convenient to switch the text input language (from Russian to English and vice versa) with the help of the keyboard. Windows suggests using the Alt and Shift key combination for this, which is not very convenient ... But on the other hand, after installing the Punto Switcher miracle program on your computer. you can switch between languages \u200b\u200bwith a single key Ctrl... In addition, Punto can independently correct words typed in the wrong layout, turning rubbish like cby

You can assign your own keyboard shortcuts to all functions in the menu, it is also possible to call tools with a keyboard shortcut.
To change the keyboard shortcut for a menu item, you just need to select it with the mouse or arrow keys, press the desired shortcut key, and it will be installed immediately. The key combination must be either a special key, i.e. F3 , or a combination of modifiers, i.e. Ctrl-Shift-D ... You cannot assign just alphanumeric keys such as Q .
To prevent accidental changes to keyboard shortcuts, they can only be changed when the Edit option is enabled → Keyboard shortcuts... Changes are disabled by default, which is recommended for normal use.
All key combinations are stored in the ui / accel_map file in the user's directory, usually named ~ / .gwyddion (Unix) or Documents and Settings \\ gwyddion (MS Windows). Assigning keyboard shortcuts to tools can only be done by editing this file. Each line corresponds to the action invoked by this key combination. For example, the default line for the Mask Editor tool looks like this:
; (gtk_accel_path "
Semicolons indicate comments, i.e. strings. starting with them will be inactive. Hence, to assign the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Shift-E to the "Mask Editor" tool, remove the semicolon to make this line active and write your keyboard shortcut in the empty space between the quotes:
(gtk_accel_path "
As soon as you write the title, immediately save the documentso that in case of unforeseen circumstances, you do not lose the document on which you have been working all day!
